APWA Texas 2020 Project of the Year, Environment >$75M category
100 MGD intake and pump station
87,000 LF of 72” steel raw water pipeline
Flood protection embankments prevented flooding to 180,000 cubic yards of excavation

This project for North Texas Municipal Water District (NTWMD) provides additional water sources to satisfy the increasing long-term demand of the North Texas area’s population growth, including 90 entities over 2,200 square miles. Despite the various challenges and hazards of building a pump station in an excavation the size of a football field directly adjacent to a river, Garney successfully constructed an intake and pump station facility with four 1,500 hp horizontal centrifugal pumps for a total capacity of 100 MGD. Garney also installed 17 miles of 72” raw water pipeline, including several hand-tunneled and machine-bored crossings, to convey the water to NTMWD’s wetland facility.
