Garney is strengthening central North Carolina’s water infrastructure with a major pipeline project connecting Asheboro’s water supply to the Chatham-Randolph Megasite. The project spans nearly 12 miles of 20-inch and 24-inch ductile iron pipeline with a capacity of 5 MGD. The Wooten Company serves as lead engineer, with support from WithersRavenel and LKC Engineering. The pipeline crosses four municipalities, requiring extensive coordination across multiple jurisdictions and stakeholders.
This investment not only meets current demand but also positions central North Carolina for long-term growth in manufacturing and technology.
Key Solutions
Segmented Construction: Advanced work in stages to keep installation moving while design and permitting continued in other sections.
Local Engineering Partnerships: Partnered with firms familiar with each municipality to streamline approvals and align with local priorities.
Prefabricated Pump Station: A preassembled unit reduced on-site work, minimized disruption, and integrated water from multiple sources.
Adaptive Project Management: Flexible scheduling and resource planning allowed the team to adjust to site needs while maintaining quality.
Project Status
Construction is progressing in phases. Section 4 is complete, Section 3 is installed and undergoing testing, and Section 2 is in inactive installation. The booster pump station electrical work remains, while roadway crossings are finished and river work is ongoing. After testing and final connections, the system is expected to reach substantial completion in 2026, providing reliable water service to the North Carolina megasite and nearby communities.
