At the Plant Scherer power plant, owned by Southern Company, Garney installed 17,000 LF of HDPE, PE, ductile iron, and basalt-lined steel pipe for six different plant processes including fly ash, makeup and return water, storm drain, fire protection, and potable water systems. The unique challenge for this project was the plant-wide coordination with numerous other contractors while minimizing disruptions to existing plant operations. Working room was very tight on this congested site and required close attention to efficient operations and safety. Another facet of the project included the placing of approximately 1,500 CY of concrete for the lighter oil tank foundation and walls.
Garney also worked on the mechanical underground piping relocation and installation of 8,000 LF of new pipe for each of the systems, including ash sluice, condensate water, demineralized water, potable water, wastewater, ammonia, instrument air, filtered water, and fire protection. All work was scheduled and coordinated to minimize the impact to ongoing operations of the plant.
