International Paper awarded Garney a contract to install a new effluent pipeline at their paper mill in Cantonment, Florida. The pipeline consists of 51,000 LF of 48” class 150, cement-lined, ductile iron pipe. This project is an extremely sensitive project from an environmental and public relations standpoint. Over 25 wetlands are crossed along the length of the pipeline requiring a very narrow working area and limited access. In addition, the project crosses many private property owners with strict restoration requirements and minimal disturbance. Several large concrete structures will be built including a distribution structure and an upstream mixing box. Other features include multiple air release valves, low point drains, jack and bore crossings, and a 1,200 LF micro tunnel.
Other work Garney has performed at this paper mill in Cantonment includes the North Well Line Replacement in 2002 that consisted of 6,700 LF of 24″ ductile iron pipe installed to replace a deteriorating raw water line serving the paper mill. This project had many challenges including tying in the pipeline in several locations during a cold mill outage. Garney also performed the Effluent Storm Sewer Replacement in 2003 which included replacing 64 LF of 42″ RCP with 42″ corrugated HDPE pipe between two storm inlet boxes.
