Bowater Newsprint hired Garney for a design-build contract to enclose their open effluent channel. The project consisted of installing 900 LF of 60″ Hobas pipe and several 108″ Hobas transition structures. The biggest challenge of the project was bypassing 36 MGD of effluent around the existing ditch to allow the pipeline to be installed. At the downstream end of the project, Garney rehabilitated the entrance channels of an existing lift station by pouring new concrete walls and lining them with acid-resistant tile.
A few years later, Garney also replaced approximately 200 LF of sewer line, two new manholes, and installed two new lift stations. The project had many challenges including several underground utilities, groundwater, and proximity to an existing railroad spur.
